Heavy Metals as Lead (FAO Method)

Heavy metals (Ag, As, Bi, Cd, Cu, Hg, Pb, Sb and Sn) are precipitated as their corresponding sulphides using a saturated H2S solution. The turbidity of the sample is compared to a standard containing only lead that is treated in the same way as the sample.

Note: This analysis is only performed on food grade calcium chloride.

Normal Measuring Range Flakes < 20 mg/kg
Solution < 7 mg/kg
Quantification Limit N/A

Note: The results should be interpreted as, "less than 20 mg/kg" or "less than 7 mg/kg"  of heavy metals as lead."

 
Mercury (Hg)

Mercury is determined by AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy) after dissolution of the sample in nitric acid.

Note: This analysis is only performed on food grade calcium chloride.

Normal Measuring Range 0.005-0.10 mg/kg
Quantification Limit 0.005 mg/kg
